Granite – english

Granites are deep-seated magmatic rocks containing substantial amounts of quartz as well as feldspar, which determines its colour. Granites are usually light, greyish or whitish in colour, sometimes with a blue tinge or even black. However, yellowish, pink and red varieties are also known.

Deposits of granite include the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Granite is very strong, hard and highly resistant to mechanical, chemical and natural influences. The practical properties and aesthetically pleasing appearance of granite open up almost unlimited creative options for designers and architects, allowing them to realise even the most daring designs in this stone. Some of the world’s most famous works in granite include Diana, Princess of Wales, the memorial fountain in London, UK and Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, USA.
